circa 1930 Shiraz Oriental Rug measures 6’6” X 9’0” (198 x274 cm). It is a
very nice looking Shiraz in a big size. The motif is four diamond medallions
on a dark blue ground absolutely covered in tiny symbols such as eight
pointed stars, stop sign shaped symbols, little people and flowers. The rug
is very much a ‘chicken rug’ ala Kampseh. All this action is surrounded by
an ivory frame covered in crosses and quadrupeds which are probably horses
with raised tails. The major border is variegated red with different
chickens on it in navy, brown, blue, tobacco and green. The reciprocal minor
borders are flower heads separated by triangles on a dark blue ground. The
ends and sides are complete and have never even been raveled out. The edges
are nicely wrapped in blue, red and green wool like every Shiraz I’ve ever
seen. The rug has 99% perfect pile. I believe the warps are mixed with a
little goat hair. The rug is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the
shipping with insurance of $40.
