Kazak Antique Rug
circa 1870 Sewan Kazak antique rug measures 3í7Ē X 5í9Ē (113 x 180 cm). This
is a very lovely and interesting little rug. A Sewan Miniature! I have
never seen one smaller than about 5í x 7í. It has a very large and
well-drawn Sewan medallion in ivory in a combination six pointed star latch
hook medallion with a red ground on a larger pulled medallion in green which
is also a pointed star. The field is tomato red with a mainly Sewan design,
the difference being that this one contains two quadrupeds in the lower
field of the rug. You donít generally see this type of rug with animals. The
major border is very strange. Itís on a dark blue ground and the horizontal
borders are different than the vertical borders. The horizontal borders are
flower heads in red and white at the top and different flower heads are at
the bottom. The vertical borders are similar to each other containing flower
motif, triangles within squares and figures I donít even know the name of.
The rug is totally asymmetric. From the medallions, to the field, to the
borders, there is symmetry. Take a close look at this image. If you examine
it closely you will be amazed at the layout of the design. It is truly one
of a kind for its type. The rug is essentially full pile. It has complete
ends and sides. It is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping
with insurance of $60.00.
