circa 1860 Shirvan runner measures 3’6” X 9’2” (109 x 280 cm). This is a
very lovely tribal piece from the period I consider to be the climax of the
Caucasian manufacturing period between 1850 -1890. The blue field has five
medallions in ivory, red, blue, and yellow gold. The rug is alive with
asymmetry. There are Memling guls here and there and little diamonds filled
with squares. There are a couple of quadrupeds and diamonds with legs. It
has it all! This is a very exciting rug. The rug has an octagonal shaped
medallion in red, blue, green, peach light brown and reddish blue which is
very finely drawn. It has an ivory border. The ends and sides are complete
although they have been repaired. The edges have been replaced with machine made
edges and the work is nicely done. The rug shows wear which is repairable
and consistent with its age. It wouldn’t bother most people. It doesn’t
bother me. The rug
is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping which includes
insurance of $45.
