#7520 Ghordez Rug

This circa 1850 Ghordez measures 36 X 63 (109 x 192 cm). This extremely interesting Ghordez is woven in a coupled column motif with a tree of life motif growing up the center from a red vase, consisting entirely of large leafs and flowers especially Ottoman tulip forms. The columns are supported by a trilevel base, which are in turn supported by flowering trees, which are in turn above two little churches (the dead giveaway being the crosses on the roofs), which is a dead giveaway that this rug is woven by Christians. A very possibly unique border consists of segments containing three vertical lines in various colors next to a vertical floral motif. The blue in this rug is quite lovely and there is a lot of aubergine. The greens are done in a sea foam color. This rug is evenly low, which I suppose is consistent with the age of it. It has a lot of Ottoman characteristics, especially the tulip motifs. The whole thing is done on a dark yellow ground. This rug has complete ends and sides. It is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping with insurance of $95.
