#7092 Kansu Rug

This 19th century antique Kansu? rug measures 3’2” x 6’0”. It has a navy blue ground with a floral center medallion in Chinese fretwork.  Chinese fretwork is also in the corners.  The field is covered in a floral motif with bats (good luck) and many representations of the Chinese character shui (good luck).  The borders are very rare for this type of rug.  The inner border is Greek key.  The middle border is a reciprocal in blue and white.  The outer border has rhomboids containing symbols for yin and yang, shui, Greek cross, flower heads and stars etc.  This is very reminiscent of Ningxia. This combination is very interesting to me.  I’ve never encountered it before in one rug.  The rug is full pile.  The ends and sides are complete.  The rug is clean and ready to go.
