#6887 Peking Chinese Rug

This circa 1890 Peking Chinese Oriental rug measures 8’9” by 11’8”.  It has a very lovely shimmery ivory colored field with a darker ivory narrow border.   This rug is utterly fantastic in design!   It has a round center medallion containing an urn with masses of flowers in shades of blue, brown and black.  The field contains 10 different sprigs of flowers.  There are carnations, peonies, and cherries. The border is a truly elegant part of this rug.  It is composed of 20 bluebirds engaged in different occupations such as perched on top of lotus buds and winging over flowers sprigs. There are three birds sitting atop a rockery staring at each other.  This activity continues around the rug.  This rug is very serene and very elegant.  It is full pile.   The wool is the highest quality, more than likely from Ningxia.  It is very finely spun and beautiful.  The buyer pays the shipping of $125.00.
