#6877 Bidjov
This mid 19th century Bidjov measures 38 X 60.
It comes from the Shirvan region of the Caucasus.
The town of Bidjov lies a few miles north of Marasali. It has a dark blue ground with
Bidjov pattern. What makes this rug most
interesting is the asymmetric fieldwork. The
only things remotely symmetric are the two very interestingly drawn human figures flanking
the green medallion. About 18 inches above
them are anthromorphic figures of unknown origin. Another
feature very rarely seen in this type of rug is the row of geometric figures running
across the bottom of the field. The rug is
completely covered in S figures, diamonds, stars, octagons and facing dragons. All is encompassed with a two color red modified
leaf and tendril design looking very Kufic and an outer reciprocal trefoil border in blue
and black. The top of the rug is missing
approximately 2 rows of knots. The bottom of
the rug is complete. There is very, very
slight wear in the field. The edges are
complete and original. The rug is clean and
ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping of
$75.00.
