#6854 Peking Chinese Rug

This circa 1870 antique Peking Chinese Oriental rug measures 11’0” X 14’6”. It has a fantastic overall design of birds, water features, butterflies and fish.  It has Chinese iconographies such as a book for scholarly pursuits and shui for happiness, all in ivory and peach on a medium to navy blue ground, all encompassed with a small ivory border with the wheel or coin design.  The major border is composed of different cartouches depicting different scenic vistas.  The entire rug is enclosed in a blue Greek key design on an ivory ground.  The rug is a fantastic example of Chinese woven art and is a quite early Peking example. Unlike most rugs of this sort, ie. pictorial, this rug is not a one-way design.  The design is worked from both ends and comes to the middle.  The ends and sides are complete.  The buyer pays the shipping of $100.00.
