#6831 Malayer This 19th century Malayer measures 40 X 60. I love this rug! It has a K. P.S.I. (knots per square inch) in excess of 400 which makes it up there with the finest Persian carpets ever made in wool. It has a variegated midnight blue pulled medallion with a brown abrash completely filled with beautifully drawn small flowers and leaves. There are even 10 small birds. It has an ivory ground with more flowers on a larger scale. The corners are tomato red in the upper end with an abrashed rusty red at the lower end. They are very nicely worked in flowers with one large blue flower in each corner. All is encompassed with an ivory major border composed of wonderfully worked vine and flower motif. The reciprocal borders are meandering flower heads. There is erosion into the outer reciprocal border at each end. This rug to my eye is one of the most beautiful rugs ever woven. The wool is so fine and is of such a quality that is indescribable. The only thing I can think of that is comparable is newborn baby hair. This rug is truly out of this world. It is full pile. The buyer pays the shipping $40.00. |
