#6821 Mandarin Art Deco Chinese Rug
This circa 1920 Mandarin Art Deco Chinese measures 811 x
116. It has a deep raspberry to ruby red field, the color of a rich red Bordeaux
wine. The field design consists of two circling pheasants, a very well drawn butterfly,
and masses of flowers and leaves. The colors
consist of yellow, gold, green, blues, purple, and lavender; all encompassed with a narrow
turquoise inner border and a large lavender major border.
The border designs consist of a long handled teapot in purple and yellow with a
flower decoration, a terrified looking duck who has seen the future and it is spelled
Peking. There are meandering trees
and flowers, a butterfly, flowering branches going into the field, a beautiful three
legged urn on a table, a purple urn, and a couple of bats (for good luck). There is a large butterfly in the corner, and a
cooking pot with smoke wafting out of it going down to the face of the ducks; the reason
for their fear now obvious. This rug although not mint is 99% full pile. It is woven using Manchester wool which, as you
know, is the finest wool. This rug is clean
and ready to go and about as good a deal as you will find on a Mandarin Chinese rug. The buyer pays a shipping of $125.00.
