#6646 Ningxia This Ningxia rug measures 70 X 76. It dates from before 1850 and is possibly a lot older. It has a very interesting design of various colored balls in units of one, two and three. There are at least 10 different designs in the balls in the colors of red, gold, a couple shades of blue, and pinky rose which are decoratively arranged around the ivory field. It has a medallion of the symbol for shui meaning good luck and happiness which is surrounded by five nicely drawn butterflies in blues, reds, and golds. The corners are worked in a nicely designed Greek key and Chinese fretwork. The borders are fantastic starting with a narrow navy blue border with the design of ivory dots. The next border out is an ivory Greek key on a blue border. The outer major border is really fabulous. It is composed of two different representations of the icon for shui in two different forms which separate the cartouches making up the main border design. These cartouches are truly fantastic as each one is uniquely designed which is very uncommon in this type of carpet. The colors are truly outrageous, saffron yellow, deep gold, ruby red, several shades of blue, and snow white ivory. This is a one of a kind fantastic example of Chinese art. It must be seen to be believed. It is in excellent condition for its age. The ends and sides are complete. It is clean and ready to go. The buyer pays the shipping of $90.00. |
