#6509 Marasali Shirvan This antique Shirvan measures 38 X 45. This is the oldest dated Shirvan I have ever seen. It is dated in two places at 1806 and 1821. The difference in dates, I believe, can be attributed to the rug being woven by more than one person. The starting date is lower in the rug than the finishing date. This rug is 200 years old and is in excellent condition for its age. The prayer design on an ivory ground is divided into different flower motifs. The inside border is a blue ground with crosses half way up switching to ovals going back to crosses in the colors of rose, red, dark blue, and ivory. The next border out is on a dark blue ground with crosses and Xs. The major border is a pale rose with motifs typical to this age red in green, dark red, ivory, blue and yellow. The next border out is a reciprocal. The final border at the edges is a double serrated diamond on a sky blue ground changing at the ends to a single row. The ends and sides are complete. Some selvedge is intact. There is slight damage to the edging not affecting the pile. There is an obvious hole in the center. The buyer pays the shipping and insurance of 50.00.
